हिंदू अस्तित्व की पहचान है कि आप अपनी आस्था से, जन्म से, मन से हिंदू हैं. लेकिन अपनी पहचान के प्रति सजग होना और उसके प्रति चेतना का विकास होना हिंदुत्व है. अर्थात पहचान से हिंदू होने का तात्पर्य है कि क्षमाभाव, प्रेमभाव और आचरण की शुद्धता होना, अहिंसा के रास्ते पर चलना और विविधता को महत्व देना. हिंदू शब्द भाववाचक है.
